New Jersey has lost once more in its bid to be the state that is first introduce legalized sports betting since the government cracked down on the practice over 20 years ago. As expected, the National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, National Hockey League, and the NCAA all sued the state.
The initial case had been heard in March of this season. A federal judge said that the state could not legalize sports betting, citing the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) at that time. Passed in 1992, that act officially outlawed recreations betting in all states which had not legalized the training by January 1, 1993.
